Michiel Baas
Anthropologist, Writer, Traveler
As an Anthropologist I have published on a range of topics including: artificial intelligence (AI), migration and transnationalism, gender and masculinity, class and social/cultural mobility. Although my main focus is India and (Southeast) Asia more broadly, the perspective that I offer in my writing has benefited from my other (professional) identity of Traveler. As a Writer, I seek to reach and draw in broader readership. I write a monthly "travel" column as The Flying Dutchman for the Indian newspaper The Economic Times. My most recent book, which was published as narrative nonfiction, is titled Muscular India: Masculinity, Mobility and the New Middle Class (Context, 2020).
